....at the mercy of the pump

Obviously I'm going to have to get on a new schedule for filling up my car with gas. I've noticed a pattern in gas prices over the past few weeks and it's not coinciding with my need to fill up.

For instance yesterday was Tuesday and on my way to work I noted that most stations were in the range of $1.99 to $2.09 per gallon. I wasn't quite at the point where I wanted to get gas so I made a mental note of what the prices were and motored on. When I got off work yesterday I saw that the Meijer gas was still at $1.99 but as I got closer to Granger I saw that some of the stations had gone from $2.09 to $2.29. This morning all of the stations in Granger were $2.29.

First of all how can the price jump 20 cents in a matter of hours and why does it always seem to happen right before the weekend. I have my own theories which probably mean nothing. One being that its the nearing the weekend so there is the potential for more leisurely driving so lets jack up the price. My other ufounded theory is that there is an ND home game so let's sock it to all the people coming into town. Like I said, my hypothesis are unsupported but these things run through my mind when the prices increase near the weekend.

I don't buy into the notion that the upcoming election has caused prices to plummet. And what's up with the inactive hurricane season also having an affect on prices. I've never heard anything about the hurricane season regulating the price of gasoline. I don't quite get the supply and demand theory either. Do people really drive that much more in the summer? I guess if the price jumps dramatically after the election I'll be proven wrong.

In the meanwhile, I guess I need to look at my cycle of filling up my car and adjust accordingly. Buy low and use high. Or more simply put, buy before Wednesday. It's beyond me how the price of gasoline can fluctuate as they do but it's either pay the price or walk.

It 7:46am and I had to log back on and post this. Meijer was still at $1.98 a gallon this morning and every pump had a car at it!

I decided along time ago that I was not going to play games, I put gas in everytime I get paid then hope and pray it last until next pay period, and then thank God I have a wind up toy for my car. :)
