Trick or Treat ......or expired!

Since we've become empty nesters we dine out quite often. How often we don't cook at home became very apparent last night.

About 6pm I noticed a group of girls pulling a wagon and walking up to our front door. Lori answered the door to find out they were "Trick or Treating" for a food pantry, collecting canned good and boxed goods. Of course we wanted to contribute so Lori went to the kitchen to get something we could give.

She was gone for the longest time. I kept hearing things shuffle around and cabinets opening and closing.

Soon she showed back up at the front door with some boxed goods to donate. When she opened the door she apologized for taking so long and explained that we hardly every cook at home anymore. As she was inventorying the cabinets to find some things to donate she discovered that many of the things we had were expired. She had finally gone through enough things to find a couple of boxed goods that weren't. The girls thanked Lori and went on their way.

As Lori was closing the door she turned to me and said that everything she pulled out was expired. There was a can of tomato juice that expired in 2004, some instant pudding that expired in 2006 and the list went on.

We must eat out a lot cuz we certainly aren't using the food we have in our cabinets!
